ISDD is short for Intelligent Systems and Digital Design and is one of the School of Information Technology's two departments.
Technology Area Digital Service Innovation
At Halmstad University, we profile Informatics towards Digital Service Innovation (DSI). This implies a focus on how value is created for users, organisations and societies through combining, re-combining and integrating resources into digital services.
The research in the field combines theories (identification of models, patterns, structures, relationships, processes) with applied and action-oriented research in collaboration with industrial and public partners. Read more about the Technology Area's research:
The Technology Area is responsible for and develops courses and programs in informatics at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral level:
- Enterprise Systems Programme (Bachelor programme in Swedish)
- Digital Design and Innovation (Bachelor programme)
- Digital Service Innovation (international Master programme)
- Doctoral education in informatics (within Information Technology)

Technology Area Aware Intelligent Systems
The goal at the Technology Area Aware Intelligent Systems is to create systems that require less supervision and can handle unexpected situations. To do so, the systems must become more aware and develop themselves in order to be able to handle events that are unknown at the time of design.
Our research is carried out in close collaboration with industrial partners and is largely about development within artificial intelligence (AI). The focus is on creating systems that, as autonomously as possible, can be developed based on real-life data. The Technology Area is responsible for carrying through and developing courses within artificial intelligens, image analysis, learning systems, mechatronics systems, signals and systems, and control theory.
The Technology Area is closely connected to Center for Applied Intelligent Systems Research (CAISR).
