Ying Fu is a professor of applied electromagnetics researching and technically developing photophysics including novel metamaterials and nanobiophotonics for photodetection, solar energy, science for life, and communication applications in broad spectrum covering visible, infrared, middle infrared and far infrared to microwaves.
The methodology of my R&D is both theoretical and experimental that I study the photophysics of various metamaterials by multi-scale theories (quantum chemistry, advance solid state physics, molecular dynamics, not only commercial softwares such as Gaussian but also self-developed codes such as energy band calculations, finite-difference time-domain, and AI/machine learning), I also synthesize, structure-modify as well as bio-conjugate and experimentally characterize metamaterials (colloidal quantum dots of CdSe-CdS/ZnS, ZnO, 3C-SiC, graphene, and metallic micro/mm-structures to verify and apply my theoretical study of applied electromagnetics for biomedical-sensing, photodetection, solar energy and communication applications.
I have published ca 230 peer-reviewed research articles in world-leading journals. I have also written and published 6 books.
I belong to the research group "Photonics, Electronics, and Nanotechnology" at the School of Information Technology.
I teach Physics courses at both bachelor's (FY4006 - Fysik 1: Mekanik och vågor, and FY4007 - Fysik 2: Termodynamik och modern fysik) and master's (EL8003 - Semiconductor Devices, and EL8010 Applied Electromagnetics) programs.
