Doctoral student influence
At the University, we work actively with our quality assurance. One important part of this work is to ensure that doctoral students are involved in the development of the doctoral education.
Influencing your education
There are different forms of doctoral student influence, but in essence this is a matter of the University encouraging, supporting and highlighting doctoral students’ commitment to issues surrounding education and study situation.
Doctoral student influence is about you as a doctoral student being involved, having your say and taking responsibility for decisions affecting doctoral students; a collective doctoral student influence. Doctoral student influence thus concerns individual doctoral students’ commitment and the doctoral students who are involved in the Student Union.

Influencing the University’s decisions
At the University, students have the right to representation in decision-making and drafting processes of significance to education or students’ situation; this applies both to the drafting and decision-making of an individual and decisions made by groups of people.
The Student Union and the University decide together which decision-making and drafting bodies the students can be involved in and how many representatives are required. In decisions made by a group of people, the number of student representatives must be a minimum of three, pursuant to the Higher Education Ordinance. Exceptions may only be made under special circumstances, taking into account the total number of board members in the group.
Doctoral student representatives
The Student Union appoints student/doctoral student representatives in all of the University's decision-making and preparatory bodies (boards and committees etc).
The doctoral student representatives shall also represent doctoral students who are not members of the Student Union. At Halmstad University it is the Student Union that coordinates the task of appointing student/doctoral student representatives to various decision-making and preparatory bodies.

Course evaluations
By participating in the course evaluation carried out at the end of each course, you as a doctoral student can evaluate and influence the doctoral education.
For the course evaluations to be carried out in a good way, it is important that there is cooperation between doctoral students and teachers and that the opportunity for informal conversations is respected and utilized by both parties.
Doctoral student barometer
Every two years, the University conducts a doctoral student survey called the Doctoral Student Barometer as part of strengthening doctoral student influence and giving you as a doctoral student the opportunity to develop the University and our quality together with us. You can read the results of the survey via the link below.
