I have a broad interest in aquatic ecology, biogeochemistry, microbial ecology and molecular biology. My previous research has mainly focused on how climate change, disturbances and changes in environmental conditions effect community composition, biodiversity and ecosystem processes. Especially I have focused on the lower trophic levels in the food web and the effect on carbon utilization and carbon cycling. During recent years I have focused more on management efforts to mitigate environmental problems caused by increased run off from terrestrial environments to aquatic ecosystems.

My present research project "Land, rivers and the sea: Mechanisms and measures to reduce hypoxia and brownification in the Baltic Sea" is funded by the research council FORMAS.
