Sara Svensson

Working with
Sara Svensson is Associate Professor and Programme Director of the Transformation, Innovation and Norm Sciences (TRAINS) Research Programme at the Halmstad University. She takes a special research interest in policy formation and governance structures in European cross-border regions and has published on that topic in Eurasian Geography and Economy, Journal of European Integration, Regional & Federal Studies, Territory/Politics/Governance, Regions & Cohesion, Journal of Borderlands Studies and various edited volumes. She is the co-editor of two edited volumes and one special issue. She is Associate Editor of the Peace and Democracy Section of the journal Frontiers in Political Science, and Regional Editor of Journal of Borderlands Studies.
Teaching & supervision
Sara Svensson teaches at the program "Samhällsanalys och Kommunikation", a program that combines a political science disciplinary approach to public policy and public affairs with a focus on communication. She also contributes to other programs and courses at Halmstad University.
At Halmstad University and other universities she has previously taught courses on European integration, public policy, qualitative methods and regional development at BA, MA and PhD level.
She is part of the supervision committee for Dimitra Kiousi within a split-site PhD cooperation with Portsmouth University, UK.
Sara Svensson holds a PhD in public policy/political science from the Central European University (Budapest, Hungary) , an MA in political science from the same university (1999) and a BA in journalism from Stockholm University (1997). Before entering academia, she worked at different locations as a news journalist for the public service broadcasting company Sveriges Radio. She frequently comments on public affairs for news outlets.
