Structural Engineering & Sustainable Construction.
I received my BSc. and MSc. degrees in Civil Engineering from Kuwait University in 2011 and 2014, respectively. I worked for four years in the structural engineering industry (2011-2015), during which I was registered as a "Professional Engineer (PE)" in Kuwait Society of Engineers. I obtained my Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering in January 2020 from Qatar University. After that, I worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Building Technology at Linnaeus University. Currently, I work as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Construction & Energy Engineering at Halmstad University.
My Ph.D. dissertation, titled “Sustainable Concrete Using Seawater, Recycled Aggregates, and Non-Corrosive Reinforcement,” involved material characterization of fresh and hardened concrete, structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete members, as well as measuring sustainability aspects of alternate “greener” concretes using life cycle assessment and life cycle cost analysis. I have also conducted research in the field of structural rehabilitation: I have studied innovative strengthening techniques utilizing cement-based mortar reinforced with non-corrosive textile meshes. I have also worked on optimizing the carbon footprint of cross-laminated timber (CLT) buildings from a life-cycle-assessment standpoint.
Teaching activities are mainly related to my expertise in structural engineering and sustainable construction. Thanks to the knowledge I gained from my experience in the industry and academia, I can support my colleagues in various courses offered in the Department.
