Efficient and flexible working life in healthcare with the support of digital tools and AI (EFAAI)
The overall aim of the project is to generate new knowledge about real-world implementation and use of AI applications for automation of administrative work in healthcare, how professional roles change over time, and how and to what extent AI automation of administrative work in healthcare can promote efficient and flexible working life based on employees' conditions and needs.
Thus, we are interested in how the boundaries around the healthcare professionals' work change when Natural Language Processes (NLP) and Generative AI-supported (GAI) systems are implemented and what boundary work they perform when healthcare becomes more information-driven through AI. We are also interested in how the implementation of technology that crosses the boundaries in an AI-powered healthcare eco-system can be carried out in a sustainable way for healthcare professionals and how the materiality of NLP and GAI can be used to support collaborative boundary work. We will also study the importance of AI Literacy in healthcare and if and how AI systems will become part of daily routines in the workplace.
Societal relevance and utilisation
Research indicates that AI will be implemented in many healthcare settings, but we know little about it partly because it is so new and there are few implementations in routine care. Studying various aspects of this new technology in the work environment is essential.
