ENSURE: Energy & sustainability research effects – quality, impact and sustainability transition
ENSURE aims to develop a better understanding of how research quality and societal impact of energy systems research can be described and assessed, with a particular focus on its contribution to sustainable transitions.
This includes understanding how research affects different aspects of transitions, from scientific advances and innovations, to changes in individuals’ behaviour, policy making and organisational direction. The project integrates qualitative and quantitative perspectives by developing methods to quantify impact patterns and calibrating these methods through qualitative triangulation. To achieve a deeper understanding of the role of research in transition processes, the project builds on insights from transition research. In this way, we hope to provide a more holistic and in-depth insight into how energy system studies research influences and is shaped by society and contributes to the transition of socio-technical systems.
The project is carried out by an innovative and growing group of researchers from Halmstad University and the University of Borås who together explore new perspectives and methods to capture and understand the role of research and researchers in societal change. The project is connected to the Data as Impact Lab, which is an infrastructure for AI applications in bibliometric methodology, semantic modelling and visualisation.
