Accessible Documents
According to legal requirements, documents published at the University must be accessible. This is to ensure that as many people as possible can access the content. One of the most basic guidelines when it comes to accessible documents is the text's and document's format. The publisher's template with its correct format settings should, as far as possible, be used, as it is designed to provide good conditions for making the document accessible.
Creative Common license
Halmstad University Press is a publisher that strives to make its publications as accessible and open as possible. As part of this effort, we recommend that you use a Creative Commons license (CC license) for your work. You can find more information on how to choose a license for your work and the different licenses available on the National Library of Swedens website.
The publisher does not make any copyright claims on published works, and the copyright remains with the author. We also have no requirements regarding which license you choose. However, most research funders recommen (or require) the "CC BY" variant. One condition when you are granted funding from, for example, the Swedish Research Council, is to follow their guidelines for publishing with open access, and the easiest way to publish your results openly is to use a Creative Common license.
Umeå University offers an online course on "CC licenses in scientific publishing". The course is free, online, and completely open. There you can learn more about the available licenses and which license suits you and your publication best.
