Natalia Stambulova awarded for contribution in sport psychology
Natalia Stambulova, Senior Professor of Sport and Exercise Psychology has received the most prestigious international professional award: the Distinguished International Sport Psychologist Award from the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP). The award is given “in recognition of making outstanding and distinguished, long term and original contribution in the advancement of sport psychology”.

On October 4, during the 15th ISSP World Congress in Taipei (organised virtually) the Award was officially granted, and Natalia Stambulova presented her award lecture entitled “Making possible what seemed impossible: Striving for career excellence in sport and life”.
“This highest professional award is a sign from the international sport psychology community that my career is fulfilled and meaningful not only for me personally, but also for the sport psychology field I have been in for about 45 years”, says Natalia Stambulova.
Natalia Stambulova is only the second female winner of this award.
Grateful for support
“Being a winner of such an award of course makes me feel honoured and trusted. But I also do not think it has changed me; I mean I am the same person as I was before”, says a laughing Natalia Stambulova. She continues:
“I still love my job and I am willing to share my experiences with colleagues and students locally, nationally, and internationally. I am very grateful that the International Society of Sport Psychology Award Committee selected me for this prestigious award. I am even more grateful to many people and organisations that helped to get to where I am. I think the best 20 years of my professional career are related to being at Halmstad University. My sincere thanks go to the University, the School of Health and Welfare, the Department of Health and Sport, and psychology group members who worked with me during these years. Without all the support I have got here, many of my achievements would be impossible.”
