Main field of study with advanced study

Informatics, Second cycle, contains degree project for Master of Arts/Master of Science (120 credits). (A2E)

Entry requirements

The courses Services in the Digital Society 15 credits, Academic Communication and Digital Service Innovation Research 15 credits, Design Research Methods 15 credits. Applicants must have written and verbal command of the English language equivalent to English course 6 in Swedish Upper-Secondary School. Exemption of the requirement in Swedish is granted.

Placement in the Academic System

The course is included in the Master´s programme: Digital Service Innovation 120 credits. The course is also given as a single subject course.

Objectives

The course objective is that the student via knowledge and skills can plan and conduct a scientific design study. Furthermore, the student shall be able to present and defend a study's results and knowledge claims. The student shall also be able to study the scientific work of others, based upon scientific guidelines.

Following successful completion of the course the student should be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • based on previous and current research in informatics identify a relevant and significant theme for knowledge development in digital service innovation
  • with support in relevant theory formation, specify and account for the literature in the field

Skills and ability

  • independently problematize and formulate a knowledge problem in the chosen theme
  • choose appropriate scientific approach to address knowledge problem(s)
  • within given time frames, independently plan and carry out a study in informatics
  • orally and in writing argue for the study's knowledge claims and how it contributes to knowledge development within the field of study

Judgement and approach

  • critically discuss informatics studies with consideration to relevant scientific, ethical, gender, sustainability and social aspects
  • critically review and assess, as well as in writing and orally, conduct a constructive dialogue on a fellow student´s work
  • reflect upon, and take responsibility for, your own knowledge development within the main field of study.

Content

During the process, students and supervisors collaborate in dialogue to support the process and contribute to develop the quality of each student's work.

Language of Instruction

Teaching is conducted in English.

Teaching Formats

Teaching consists of group supervision and article seminars in support of the student's independent work. Individual supervision may also take place.
