Objectives
The aim of the course is for students to develop knowledge and skill in business development methodology, organizational forms, competitive factors, development methods and tool as is used strategically and operationally development work. The student also develops practical knowledge in planning and management of business models, business development processes and experience in project work in cooperation with existing business or organisation.
Following successful compleiton of the course the student should:
Knowledge and understanding
- account for various theories, principles and concept in connection with business development
- account for models and theories concerning management of innovation processes
- explain the significance of various aspects of corporate social responsibility
- explain the scientific basic of the subject, proven experience and current development and research work
Skills and ability
- plan, run and implement one business development project
- apply suitable methods and identify business development opportunities, prioritize these based on relevant information, and develop prioritized action plans for the business
- plan and implement presentations orally and in writing
Judgement and approach
- relate critically to different methods and models, and independently be able to develop methods and models to various situations within business development
Content
Areas covered include environmental analysis, organizational analysis and planning of development work and financing and business start-up.
Innovation business, 9 hp
Innovation activities from strategically, organizationally and individually perspective; creativity on Individual level and group level, business development, business model development, from one strategically and operationally perspective, the contractor, risk financing, business startup, innovation system. The company in society (CSR and ethics). Law in connection with project, Quality in project management perspective. Organization, management and change of operations, of the future organizational and leadership challenges.
Business development project, 6 hp
During the course the student work in a project in co-operation with real business or organisation. The student practiced practically in creative and systematic business development methods and business modeling with purpose to identify development opportunities and to understand the strategic, organizational and leadership challenges as suggested measures entails.

Innovation activities, 9 hp
The teaching consists of lectures, seminar exercises and/or group work.
Business development project, 6 hp
The teaching consists of instructions and discussions in larger or smaller groups during the practical the work with the business development project. Current for each student one diary and leaves weekly reports at the consultations with supervisor one short compilation of previous weekly activities and one plan for coming weekly work.

Innovation activities, 9 hp
Assessment is based on an individual written examination and assignmentes. Compulsory attendance applies at seminars and any guest lectures.
Business development project, 6 hp
Examination of the business development project takes place by assessment of the written report, by assessment of the oral presentation of the project and assessment of the achievements during the project work.
