60 credits Mechanical Engineering. English 6. Exemption of the requirement in Swedish is granted

The course is given as a single subject course.

Objectives

The goal of the course is to provide an opportunity for exchange students to do a practical semester in a research environment, taking part in projects run in cooperation with industry. The project could be a product or process development/redesign task, a testing/analyzing task or a combination of them.

Following successful completion of the course the student should:


Knowledge and understanding

  • report and understand relevant background information within actual problem area


Skills and ability

  • plan and perform the project with an engineering approach, e.g. solve problems that may arise during the project
  • explain and argue for decisions made during the project, such as choice of models, methods and techniques, as well as being able to discuss the impact of these decisions and how they affected the project result


Judgement and approach

  • evaluate and report the project results orally as well as in a written report, with an engineering approach

Content

Planning, carrying out and reporting a project within the subject area.

Language of Instruction

Teaching is conducted in English.

Teaching Formats

Weekly meetings, supervision, and presentations of the project work. The course ends with the hand-in of a written report and an oral presentation. All these activities are mandatory.

Grading scale

Two-grade scale (UG): Fail (U), Pass (G)

Examination formats

Examination takes place after assessment of written and oral presentation, and through a statement from the supervisor.

Following a completed practical work placement period, a student who has been awarded a fail grade has the right to a further work placement period.

Exceptions from the specified examination format

If there are special reasons, the examiner may make exceptions from the specified examination format and allow a student to be examined in another way. Special reasons can e.g. be study support for students with disabilities.
