The course is given as a single subject course.

Objectives

The objective of this course is to provide students with practical skills to properly implement projects through many experience-based moments. The course aims to highlight both the role as project manager and the role of project staff.


Following successful completion of the course the student should:


Knowledge and understanding

  • Describe the project as an organizational form and project management as a way of working
  • Describe different ways of working which can facilitate the project work


Skills and ability

  • Plan, organize, implement, monitor and follow up a project
  • Present orally and in writing a project to project stakeholders


Judgement and approach

  • Reflect on different tools and methods, and their consequences in different projects

Content

The project's start, its phases, characteristics and risk.

Different types of projects, Project phases from idea to closure / handout and Risk analysis.


Planning and monitoring

Development of work packages, network planning, and other methods for planning and monitoring. Practical project management. Economic planning and monitoring of projects


The project manager, organization and group dynamics

The project organization, line organization and matrix organization. The roles of the project manager and the project members. Conflict- and relationship- management. Development of a functioning work- group. The roles in a group. Presentation of the project to stakeholders.

Language of Instruction

Teaching is conducted in English.

Teaching formats include lectures, tutoring, and seminars.

Six-grade scale, letters (FA): Insufficient (F), Sufficient (E), Satisfactory (D), Good (C), Very Good (B), Excellent (A)

Examination formats

Assessment is done in an individual written exam and written assignments, performed either individually or in a group.
