English Listening Comprehension and Vocabulary, 7.5 credits

General entry requirements (with the exemption of the requirement in Swedish) + English 6.

The course is to be studied as a single subject (fristående) course.

The overall objective of the course is that the student will develop their basic theoretical and language knowledge and further develop comprehensive and effective communication skills to be able to function in an English-speaking environment. After completing the course in its entirety, the student should be able to use and understand speech in different contexts and areas.

Following successful completion of the course the student should:

Knowledge and understanding

• understand the academic, technical and general English, both from recorded sources and in social interaction
• understand and use the words and idiomatic expressions studied during the course

Skills and ability

• examine the relationships between different theories, English-language didactics as well as practical teaching methods
• identify as well as use different concepts within second language acquisition

Judgement and approach

• analyse and critically assess the content and methods of English teaching in relation to second language acquisition theories

Exercises in listening comprehension with written and oral assignments. Exercises in vocabulary.

The course is taught through seminars and exercises

Examination involves written examination.

If there are special reasons, the examiner may make exceptions from the specified examination format and allow a student to be examined in another way. Special reasons can e.g. be study support for students with disabilities.

Course evaluation is part of the course. This evaluation offers guidance in the future development and planning of the course. Course evaluation is documented and made available to the students.
