Doctoral ring and doctoral hat (insignia)

At the conferment, you can receive either a doctoral hat or a laurel wreath from the promotor. The doctoral ring is not part of the ceremony at Halmstad University. Hat (and ring) must be ordered in good time to be ready for the ceremony. The cost for the doctoral hat is approximately SEK 5,000 and for the ring between SEK 8,000 and 10,000. You pay for the hat and ring yourself. Both hat and ring are completely voluntary. If you do not want to order a hat, the conferment is done with a laurel wreath which the University orders and pay for. The University will contact you regarding measurements.

Mingle and procession

The ceremony begins with a procession in which you will participate. Before the ceremony, those who will participate in the procession gather and mingle on the second floor in the I building, next to the University Hall. We rehearse what happens during the conferment. No relatives or other guests are invited to the mingle. These take their seats directly at the tables in the University Hall. Staff on site will inform your guests where they will be seated.

When the procession gets to the stage, you go up on the stage and stand by your seat. You will be seated on the stage throughout the ceremony together with the other promovendi and the professors who will be inaugurated.

Registration, dinner and seating

You may bring three guests free of charge to the Ceremony and dinner. You yourself participate free of charge. You must register yourself and your guests. When registering select the category “Doctor to be conferred (promovendi)”. Staff on site will inform you where you and your guests will be seated.
