Photo and interview

Before the academic ceremony, you will be interviewed and have your picture taken for an installandi portrait. Text and photo will be used in the printed Academic Ceremony brochure as well as for the University web, social media and press material.

Inaugural lecture

All new professors at Halmstad University, will hold an open, inaugural lecture of approximately 20 minutes. The lectures take place the same week as the academic ceremony. You choose if you want to hold you lecture in Swedish or English yourself, but Swedish may be preferred as the lectures are open to the public.

Professors’ lunch at Halmstad Castle

As a professor at the University, you are invited to the Professors’ lunch at Halmstad Castle. The County Governor is the host, and the guests are, in addition to this year’s installandi and honorary doctors, the University’s already inaugurated professors, the University Management and the Student Union President. No external guests/relatives are invited to the lunch. Transport by bus is offered to and from the University.

Mingle and procession

Before the Ceremony, those who will participate in the procession gather and mingle on the second floor in the I building, next to the University Hall. We rehearse what happens during the inauguration. No relatives or other guests are invited to the mingle. These take their seats directly at the tables in the University Hall. Staff on site will inform your guests where they will be seated.

Here you also get the opportunity to try out your robe for the right size. The Ceremony then begins with a procession in which you will participate. When you enter the hall, you walk onto the stage and stand by your seat. You will be seated on stage during the Ceremony, together with the other installandi and the doctors who will be conferred.

Registration, dinner and seating

You must register yourself and your guests. When registering select the category “New professor (installandi)”. You participate free of charge. You may bring three guests free of charge to the Ceremony and dinner. Staff on site will inform you where you and your guests will be seated.

Dress code

For participants at the castle lunch and in the ceremonial procession: white tie or formal attire. No dress code but festive attire for other guests attending the Ceremony.

Use of the doctoral hat

If you have been conferred and have a doctoral hat, you are welcome to bring it to the academic ceremony. Until the conferment part of the ceremony, the hat should be on the table in front of you, or in your lap. You put your hat on at the same time as the promotor puts his or her laurel wreath on and invites the guests who have a doctoral hat to put their hat on. You then wear the hat on your head for the rest of the ceremony. If you are taking part in the procession, you will carry your hat in your hand during the procession.

Foreign doctoral hats are permitted. A general rule for the use of doctoral hats is that they are worn when the promotor wears his or her hat/wreath.
