Successful Summer Schools attracted engaged students and renowned speakers

From June 11 to June 15, students and keynote speakers got together on the top floor of Trade Center, with a perfect view over the city of Halmstad in full bloom. The five days were scheduled to enable the participants to get a deeper knowledge and understanding of the topic, but also to allow them to socialize and experience a new city together. The idea of the event is to broaden the experience so that everyone involved gets as much out of it as possible. It is a perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded and build a network for future studies and collaborations.

”This year, we were very fortunate to have another group of excellent speakers, such as Dorsa Sadigh from Stanford University and Taylor T. Johnson from Vanderbilt University”, says Walid Taha.

”Having renowned researchers speaking at such an event is of course boosting the interest of the summer school and the awareness of Halmstad University in general.”

Dorsa Sadigh, who specializes in designing provably correct controllers for human-cyber-physical systems, such as semiautonomous vehicles, met Walid at a conferrence when he asked her to come to Halmstad University to share her work.

I saw this as a great opportunity to share my results with a new crowd, said Dorsa who was impressed by the participating students’ engagement and discussions during the lectures.

Next year, the plan is to merge these two summer schools into one, as the topics are highly related and opens up for discussions from different angles.

Cyber-Physical Systems will still be the main topic as we consider it a good framework to capture our strength in research and education at the School of Information Technology, says Walid Taha.
