Goals
Three goals show what Halmstad University is striving towards, how the University wants to profile itself and develop in the next ten years. To each of these goals, a number of strategies or activities are connected, to more concretely describe what the University will do long-term to achieve these goals.
Providing students with a top-quality university experience
The students at Halmstad University are respected, sought after and appreciated thanks to their experience, knowledge and capacity for critical thinking. The study programmes and the students’ overall experience of the University are characterised by excellence, sustainability, international perspectives, collaboration and relevance to society.
Students interact with knowledgeable and dedicated teachers and researchers who use innovative teaching methods and university-adapted pedagogics to provide education of the highest quality. Students and employees thrive and work together in creative, dynamic multidisciplinary laboratories and learning environments. Research, education and collaboration enrich each other and create lively and international knowledge arenas. The students experience dynamic and engaging student activities. The students have considerable power to influence their study programmes and are challenged in their own development. The study environment is characterised by good service, efficient support and positive interaction with University personnel.
To achieve this goal, Halmstad University will:
- Develop new study programmes and strengthen existing ones in profile areas linked to Halmstad University’s research and of relevance for society.
- Strengthen links between education and research by increasing the number of teachers conducting research and increasing student involvement in the University’s research environments.
- Create the best possible conditions for a lively campus and dynamic and inclusive student activities.
- Continue to develop laboratory and learning environments that promote collaboration and creativity.
- Encourage and support the development of pedagogics, subject didactics, digital skills and subject knowledge, and continue to develop the University’s system for qualifications acquisition to enable successful teaching to be rewarded.
- Work on a general strategy for the digitalisation of education that supports collaborative processes and the exchange of experiences, and develop an infrastructure that supports the strategy.
- Continue to develop the University’s quality assurance system regarding education, where student influence, internationalisation, equality and sustainability are natural components.
- Continue to develop Common Core courses using a student-oriented approach based on project-based learning, and in collaboration with representatives from working life.

A creative and innovative university
The research and third-cycle education of Halmstad University is characterised by international excellence within profiled areas with high societal relevance. Innovation and value-adding are significant components of Halmstad University’s education and research.
The research done at Halmstad University helps to identify ways of solving the challenges facing society and is often conducted in close collaboration with external players without any loss of integrity or critical approach. The students study in an international environment which promotes creativity, innovation, capacity for collaboration and intercultural skills. Halmstad University’s internal culture is characterised by creativity, openness and the ability to bring about change. Arenas for meetings that cross subject and organisation boundaries create unique opportunities for collaboration and successful profiling.
To achieve this goal, Halmstad University will:
- Strive to develop profile areas and increase funding for research, and further develop its two general profile areas Health Innovation and Smart Cities and Communities.
- Increase the impact of the University’s research through more publications in prestigious channels, drive more strategic collaboration projects, and increase its participation in national and international research and third-cycle study networks.
- Continue to develop research linked to broad areas of education and education linked to prominent fields of research.
- Continue to develop its quality assurance system for research, of which in-house peer review, internationalisation, equality and sustainability are natural components.
- Develop education and collaboration so as to increase creativity, innovative thinking and value-adding, and stimulate and develop the skills and commitment
of students and employees with regard to innovation-driving activities. - Strive to increase the number of students gaining international experience and develop internationalisation within the University.

To achieve this goal, Halmstad University will:
- Develop the long-term national and international strategic partnerships that strengthen the University’s profile and lead to enhanced forms of collaboration.
- Further develop its close relationships with Region Halland, municipalities and other organisations in the county.
- Strengthen and develop its laboratory environments for collaboration and innovation, for the benefit and development of both the University and its collaborating partners.
- Develop platforms to identify and communicate lessons learned from good examples of value-adding and society-enhancing collaboration.
- Create more incentives and opportunities for increased internal cooperation and involvement in collaboration.
- Continue to develop and increase the students’ contacts with working life.
- Develop centralised alumni activities for Swedish and international students.
- Systematise the development of its contract education so as to increase its scope and breadth.
- Develop its qualifications acquisition system so that successful collaboration is rewarded.
