Interlibrary loans and purchase suggestions
Do you need a book, journal or article the library doesn't have? In most cases we can order the material from another library through an interlibrary loan. Library users are also welcome to suggest items for purchase by the library.
Take note of the information below and choose the appropriate form.
Who can use the interlibrary loan service?
This service is for students and employees at Halmstad University, and also for students at other universities, living in Halmstad. You must have a registered library card from Halmstad University Library. Members of the general public should contact their local library for interlibrary loans.
What can you order?
Books and articles not held by the university library may be requested from other libraries. You may not request an interlibrary loan if the book is held by the university library, even if it is currently out on loan. It is not always possible to obtain interlibrary loans of dissertations and conference proceedings.
Articles via interlibrary loan are always supplied in printed form as we are not permitted to forward them in electronic form due to copyright regulations. You can order single articles but not entire journal issues.
The articles and books ordered must be related to your studies, research or work at Halmstad University. Fiction is only eligible for thesis work.
What does an interlibrary loan cost?
Articles for students: SEK 40 per article. Please note that you have to pay full price as soon as the order has been processed, regardless if you change your mind and do not collect your article.
Articles for other libraries: SEK 80 per article.
Books: Interlibrary loans within the Nordic countries are free. Loans outside the Nordic countries are charged actual costs (SEK 150–250).
Processing time for interlibrary loans
Delivery time is usually between 5 and 7 working days but can vary.
You will receive an email when the item arrives and can pick up the book at the library reception desk. If you are a member of staff at Halmstad University, you will get your articles through the internal mail.

Loan periods for interlibrary loans vary according to the borrowing rules of the supplying library. Lost or damaged interlibrary loans must be replaced by the borrower.
