The course introduces students to the political science subfield of international politics and international relations. The course explores the drivers and consequences of globalization and key actors of global governance, as well as opportunities and limitations of international cooperation. Specific emphasis is put on global governance with relation to sustainable development and gender relations. The changing role of the nation state within the international system is analyzed in the context of new threats and from different perspectives on power and security. Contemporary conflicts are used as empirical examples.
