The course introduces the student to the political science subfield of international politics and the discipline of international relations. The course will explore the driving forces and consequences of conflicts and cooperation, key actors, and opportunities and limitations of the international system. Specific emphasis is put on the global economy, sustainable development, and gender equality. The changing role of the nation-state within the international system is analyzed in the context of new threats and from different perspectives on power and security. Contemporary conflicts are used as empirical examples.
