Entry requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or the equivalent. 45 credits at second level in Business Administration. Applicants must have written and verbal command of the English language equivalent to English course 6 in Swedish Upper-Secondary School.

The course is part of Master's Programme (120 credits) in Strategic Entrepreneurship for International Growth.

Objectives

The goal of the course is that the student develops the principle that scholarly guidelines can plan and undergo a theoretical/empirical examination, report and answer an independent scientific work, as well as critically review other people's scientific work.


Following successful completion of the course the student should:


Knowledge and understanding

  • explain research development and status within the main area of education
  • critically and systematically identify and discuss literature and theory within the chosen specialization within the subject of economics


Skills and ability

  • independently and in detail plan, review , report and present a scientific study within the given timeframes, both oraly and in writing
  • apply scientific methods and approaches appropriate to the selected statement
  • analyze and structure empirical material carefully and critically


Judgement and approach

  • evaluate and critically assess international research in the field
  • analyze and reflect on ethical aspects of conducting research
  • critically assess how research contributes to the development of new knowledge in the main field of education, as well as take responsibility for own knowledge developmet

Content

The course has four main parts. The first part focuses on discussion on general questions about scientific work common to all students. The students group views in pairs, and then select and discuss with their supervisor an area of particular interest, where a research question is doubled. Groups of students with similar interest if councils are promoted to smaller seminar groups.


The second part is to carry out the most proficient work on the basis of previous research, evaluation of theory and literature, methodological choices, and developing a method of collecting empiri. In the process of the process, students will be presenting a research subject. In the research report, the student will describe the question, the theoretical reference framework, the methodology and how the empirical material will be collected. Feedback is given through participation in mandatory seminar groups.


The third part is to work through, structuring and analyzing empirical data, as well as compiling a scientific report. To support this process, individual (group) supervision is offered.


The fourth part is done at the end of the course and includes oral and written presentation of own scientific report, as well as opposition and feedback on the work thar other students present and defend.

Language of Instruction

Teaching is conducted in English.

Teaching consists of seminars and individual supervision. Teaching is in English.

Six-grade scale, letters (FA): Insufficient (F), Sufficient (E), Satisfactory (D), Good (C), Very Good (B), Excellent (A)

Examination formats

In the course, the independent project is examined, taking into account how the student defends his work and how the student is opposed to another work.

Supervision of degree projects is provided throughout the course and to the extent determined by the respective schools. If the student requires further supervision after the course has ended, the dean of the school may decide to grant additional supervision for a period of one year. After that, the student will be awarded a grade for the degree project, regardless of whether the work is completed or not.

Exceptions from the specified examination format

If there are special reasons, the examiner may make exceptions from the specified examination format and allow a student to be examined in another way. Special reasons can e.g. be study support for students with disabilities.
