Bias-tunable quantum disc-in-nanowire photonic crystal IR detectors
High-performance photodetectors for infrared radiation (IR) are key components in application areas such as thermal imaging, surveillance, optical communication, quantum cryptography and optical coherence tomography. This project deals with the development of disruptive three-terminal nanowire (NW) array IR photodetectors with voltage-tunable photoresponse, enhanced by guided optical modes in a photonic crystal. The developed detectors will also facilitate fundamental studies of electron-photon interactions in confined nanoscale systems.
