There is an increasing interest regarding physical exercise and its ability to both prevent and treat illnesses and poor health. With a degree from the Master's programme in Exercise Biomedicine – Health and Performance, you will deepen your knowledge in the connection between exercise and health. About the education

Innovative environments, methods and tools

The education at Halmstad University is characterised by our profiling as a university that drives innovation. You have access to state-of-the-art study environments, including the Human Movement Lab, which is part of the interdisciplinary Rydberg Laboratory.

The Human Movement Lab is a research and teaching facility for the study of the physiology and biomechanics of exercise. The focus is on measurements of exercise capacity and movement mechanics, using advanced equipment to measure endurance, strength, power, flexibility, anthropometrics, muscle activation, vibration, kinematics and kinetics. In connection to The Human Movement facility is a lab for biomedical analyses.

Courses and competencies in focus

The Master's programme in Exercise Biomedicine – Health and Performance is positioned between the fields of sports science and medicine. The focus on exercise as medicine with a biomedical perspective makes the programme unique.

You gain valuable insights into the effects of exercise on physical health and how to apply this knowledge on health promotion and disease therapy, in addition to sports performance. You will develop skills in assessing, analysing and evaluating the human body from an exercise physiological perspective.

The programme is conducted in English.

Collaboration opportunities

The degree project during the second semester will be done in close collaboration with researchers at Halmstad University or in collaboration with another university or organization.

After the education

Degree

The programme leads to a Degree of Master of Science (60 credits) with a major in Exercise Biomedicine.

Career

The Master's programme in Exercise Biomedicine – Health and Performance gives you the opportunity to work with exercise physiology with a focus on musculoskeletal health. You can, for example, work at companies with a focus on health promotion work, medicine or biotechnology. You can also work as a sports coach or in occupational health service.

Opportunities for further studies

After the programme, you are qualified to apply for doctoral or PhD studies.
