Tuition fees
Below you can find information regarding tuition fees when studying at Halmstad University.
Payment of tuition fees
The tuition fee is paid per semester and payment must be done before each semester starts. The tuition fee refers to the number of credits students are admitted to and equals full time studies. We do not accept payment in instalments.
Students are required to pay for each course in which they are registered. If you intend to study more than 30 credits you will be required to pay additional tuition fees. If you fail a course or a programme you are registered on, you will not be reimbursed or able to use the fee for another course/programme.
Students who do not pay the tuition fee on time will be suspended from the programme/course. A decision on suspension due to due to non payment of tuition fee means that the student may not participate in teaching, exams or other activities within the framework of the education at the University.

You will receive an email with instructions on how to download your invoice in Ladok for students. You must write the reference number stated in the invoice and the student's name when you make the payment.

Once payment is made
- Please send a copy of the payment receipt via email to the Student Affairs Department: admissions@hh.se
- When we have received the payment to the University's bank account, the confirmed payment will be available in Ladok for students. Please note that the transfer of the payment can take 1-2 weeks.
- The Student Affairs Department will notify the Migration Agency of the payment. Students admitted to a two-year programme can apply for extension of the permit for the second year once you have paid the fee for the third semester.
Scholarship holders
If you have been awarded a Halmstad University Scholarship or Swedish Institute Scholarship, you must meet the conditions to keep the scholarship for the continuation of the programme. If the conditions are met, the amount awarded will be deducted from the original fee on the invoice. For detailed information, please read more about scholarships through below link.
Requirements for progression
You must also meet the requirements for progression in your studies before we can send the invoice or for you to be able to download the invoice. There might be requirements of completed courses and credits to be able to register on the second semester, the thesis and all two-year programmes have requirements for progression between year 1 and year 2. Please check your programme/course syllabus to make sure that you are aware of the number of credits or courses you have to complete.
Tuition fee exemption
If your status of requirement to pay tuition fees is changed, you need to apply for tuition fee exemption at the Student Affairs Department. The student is responsible for attaching a decision of changed residence permit/residency to prove that tuition fee exemption applies. The application must have been received no later than two weeks before the start of the semester. If an application is submitted after the start of a semester, decisions on changed status to tuition fee exemption applies from the following semester. The decision is therefore not retroactive and tuition fee(s) paid for commenced programmes/courses will not be reimbursed.
Send your application to: admissions@hh.se
Changes of study plan
As a fee-paying student you have to follow the study plan of each course or programme. If you need to make changes in your study plan, you need to contact your programme director and inform the Student Affairs Department.
Studies abroad
If your programme includes studies abroad or if you wish to take part in an exchange programme during your studies at Halmstad University, the tuition fee for the period spent abroad still needs to be paid.
