Dr. Anita Sant’Anna is an assistant professor at the Center for Applied Intelligent Systems Research (CAISR) at Halmstad University, Sweden. She has coordinated the Health Technology research track at CAISR and been an active member of the Health Innovation Board at Halmstad University. She is currently involved in large co-production projects with Swedish industry and healthcare providers in Region Halland aiming to maximize the impact and value of currently available data sources. From January 2019 she’s research coordinator at the Center for Health Technology at Halmstad University (Hälsoteknikcentrum Halland).
Dr. Sant’Anna holds a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil; and a PhD in Information Technology – Signal and Systems - from Halmstad University. She started her research career developing methods and algorithms for analyzing human movement using wearable sensors. Her work has been applied to the characterization of gait symmetry in Parkinson’s patients and the evaluation of quality of gait after hip-replacement surgery.
Currently, her research makes use of wearable sensors, smart-phones and smart-home sensors to capture and model the relationship between user activity and behavior. This includes the development of signal processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence methods. She is involved in both regional and European projects aiming to develop personalized decision support systems that help individuals adopt healthy behaviors on a daily basis, from improving exercise routines to medication adherence.
