Halmstad University adds value, drives innovation and prepares people and society for the future. Since the beginning in 1983, innovation and collaboration with society have characterised the University's education and research. The research is internationally reputable and is largely conducted in a multidisciplinary manner within the University's two focus areas: Health Innovation and Smart Cities and Communities. The University has a wide range of education with many popular study programmes. The campus is modern and well-equipped, and is situated close to both public transportation and the city center.

Education for the future
The University has a wide range of education with many popular study programmes. A large proportion are vocational training programmes within areas that are in demand by society and the labour market. This applies, for example, to teachers, engineers, nurses, economists and social workers. The University has a total of about 12,000 students and offers about 30 first cycle study programmes, about 20 second cycle study programmes and over 200 courses in different subject areas. Most of the education takes place on the University's campus in modern, well-equipped learning environments and labs. The University is also known for having a welcoming and active student life.
Profiled research
Halmstad University conducts research within two focus areas, Health Innovation and Smart Cities and Communities, based on three strong research education areas: Information Technology, Innovation Science and Health and Lifestyle. Within the focus areas, there are multidisciplinary research programmes, with a focus on societal challenges. The research is value-creating, innovation-driven and develops society. The research has a high societal relevance and contributes to finding solutions for challenges, often in close collaboration with external actors. Research, education and collaboration enrich each other and create vital and international knowledge arenas.

Collaboration for development
The University participates actively in the development of society through collaboration with both the business sector and the public sector. Students encounter society and the labor market in a number of different ways during their education, for example through project courses, work-based education or degree projects. A large part of the research takes place in collaboration or co-production with companies, organisations or the public sector, with a strong focus on societal benefits. The University has established collaboration agreements with particularly important partners in research and education, such as Getinge Sterilization AB, Stena Recycling AB and Region Halland.

Today, the University has around 600 employees. Among these there are 59 professors and 88 doctoral students.

History
In 1983, Halmstad University was recognised as an independent institution. At that time, it had a few hundred students and a staff of 40 people. Currently, the University has about 12,000 students and 600 employees. It offers approximately 50 degree programmes and over 200 courses at different levels. Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU
The EU has established a temporary recovery instrument, NextGenerationEU. The investment will help repair the immediate economic and social damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also help build an EU that is more environmentally friendly, more digital and more resilient, and better adapted to current and future challenges.
Some of the educations at Halmstad University have been partly funded by The Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) as part of Sweden’s recovery plan within NextGenerationEU.
