Student stories

Allen Christo, India – Master’s Programme in Renewable Energy Systems

I received my Master’s at Halmstad University, with a scholarship received from the University. My field of study is Renewable Energy Systems, which has remarkably started emphasising its importance over the years.

The duration of the programme is about a year (60 ECTS) and concludes with a Master's thesis. The method of study and the industrial exposure beyond the boundaries, portrayed by Study in Sweden live sessions, drove me to think about studying in Europe. The thoughts about green energy during my Bachelor’s urged me to opt for a Renewable Energy Systems degree. I chose Sweden as my destination after contemplating various facts. Among these is the fact that Sweden is a top green country and it utilises its entire wastes to produce energy; also, as I said earlier, the knowledge you gain from the exposure brought by initiatives of universities here is immense and worth mentioning.

My experience here at Halmstad University has been phenomenal until now. We were fortunate to visit the Wind turbine testing site in Denmark and the famous Wind Energy Congress – Husum Wind’15 in Germany, both during the first month of the study period. The first thing I happened to figure out is: don’t be quiescent. People here appreciate varying perspectives and interaction. So, you have to be creative and try to differentiate yourself.

A note for aspiring students: Don’t be hasty while deciding about your higher studies. Try and get to know yourself and in what you can succeed. Contemplate on things you should do and prioritise them. If selection of an ideal field of study eludes you, it would become a problem in finding your place of study. Your prime focus should be on identifying the area in which you want to specialise. This will make you understand and guide you in reaching your destiny. Don’t be an introvert, try to be more outgoing. With these I can assure you’ll have a tremendous experience during your period of study in Sweden or anywhere in Europe.
