On this page you can find information about scholarships available for international students and exchange students.
The application period for Halmstad University scholarships for studies starting autumn 2026 is between 9-25 February, 2026.
How to apply for Halmstad University scholarship
Eligibility
- Apply for one of our master’s programmes as your first priority in the application at University Admissions. Applicants with a HU master programme as their first choice are eligible to apply.
- Make sure to make your application on time (15 January) via University Admissions.
- Pay the application fee.
Application
- Eligible applicants will receive an email with a link to the online scholarship application form.
- Fill in the online scholarship application form. Please note that you will need to provide the application number you will receive from University Admissions.
Selection
- The committee will award scholarships based on students’ academic merits (GPA, but also ranking of the previous university and proficiency in English). No consideration will be taken to work experience or student's financial situation.
- Halmstad University strives for diversity and applicants from countries with few applicants will be prioritised.
- Applicants must be qualified and admitted to a programme at Halmstsad University to be awarded a scholarship.
Notification
- Halmstad University will notify the recipients of scholarships by email after the first Notification of Selection Results (March/April).
- Recipients will receive a scholarship nomination letter and an invoice with the deducted scholarship amount. The scholarship must be accepted or declined by the deadline stated in the nomination letter.
- Students who are not offered a scholarship will not be notified individually. If you receive an invoice with the full tuition fee amount, you have not been awarded a scholarship.
The Swedish Institute Scholarships
The Swedish Institute (SI), a Swedish government agency, each year administers around 500 scholarships for students and researchers coming to Sweden to pursue higher education at a Swedish university. Currently, there are two different scholarships available, SI Scholarship for Global Professionals and SI Scholarship for Pioneering Women in STEM. Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals
The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals is an academic scholarship provided for full-time, one- or two-year master’s studies in Sweden. Through the scholarship, the Swedish Institute (SI) aim to develop a network of global leaders committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goals and drive the development of their home countries forward. The application for this scholarship opens in February.
Swedish Institute Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM
The SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM is an academic scholarship provided for full-time, one-or two-year master’s studies in designated programmes in Sweden.
If you are applying for the SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM, please make sure that you meet all criteria and that you have applied to one, or more, of the eligible programmes listed on the Swedish Institute website. When you have applied to the programme via Universityadmissions, you will receive an email with a link to the online scholarship application form. Please fill out the form and mark that you are applying to the STEM scholarship. If you fulfill all criteria, you are automatically considered for the scholarship.
Scholarships for exchange students
Through Erasmus there are many possibilities for you as a student in a higher education institution to study or do a traineeship within Europe without paying any study fees. As an Erasmus student or trainee you are entitled the Erasmus scholarship from your home university that will cover most of the expenses during your period abroad. Talk to the erasmus representative at your home university to get more information about the process.
To be eligible for an Erasmus scholarship you have to:
- be a citizen of one of the countries participating in Erasmus.
- be a registered student at a university.
- have been studying for one year (not for traineeship) before the mobility takes place.
Your current university also needs to have a partnership with Halmstad University (not for traineeship) and has to be a part of Erasmus by holding the Erasmus University Charter.
