Use of the doctoral hat

If you have been conferred and have a doctoral hat, you are welcome to bring it to the academic ceremony. Until the conferment part of the ceremony, the hat should be on the table in front of you, or in your lap. You put your hat on at the same time as the promotor puts his or her laurel wreath on and invites the guests who have a doctoral hat to put their hat on. You then wear the hat on your head for the rest of the ceremony. If you are taking part in the procession, you will carry your hat in your hand during the procession.

Foreign doctoral hats are permitted. A general rule for the use of doctoral hats is that they are worn when the promotor wears his or her hat/wreath.
